The 2026 Ram 1500 is engineered as a full-size pickup with multiple configurations that support varying operational requirements. It is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab formats with both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. The platform uses a longitudinal front-engine layout and a ladder-type frame constructed with a steel cab and double-wall steel pickup box. This construction supports structural rigidity and load management while maintaining consistent dimensional tolerances across configurations. The vehicle is assembled at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan and is classified as a standard pickup under EPA guidelines.
Engine Lineup and Output Specifications
The 2026 Ram 1500 offers four engine options, each designed with distinct performance characteristics and mechanical configurations.
The 3.6-liter Pentastar® V-6 with eTorque is a 60-degree gasoline engine equipped with variable valve timing and a chain-driven dual overhead camshaft system with 24 valves. It uses sequential multiport fuel injection and operates with a compression ratio of 11.3:1. This engine produces 305 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 271 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 rpm. The integrated eTorque system includes a 48-volt lithium-ion battery with a 0.43 kWh capacity and a 9 kW belt-starter generator that delivers 90 lb-ft of launch torque. Fuel economy reaches up to 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway in 2WD configurations.
The 3.0-liter straight-six turbocharged engine is an inline configuration with twin turbochargers and direct fuel injection. It generates 420 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 469 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine incorporates dual independent valve timing, hydroformed tubular camshafts, and 24 valves with sodium-filled exhaust valves. Fuel delivery operates at pressures up to 5,075 psi through a centrally located injector system. The engine uses a cast-aluminum block with plasma-coated cylinder bores and forged steel internal components. Fuel economy is rated at up to 25 mpg highway in 2WD models.
The 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 with eTorque is a 90-degree gasoline engine with variable cam timing and hemispherical combustion chambers. It produces 395 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 410 lb-ft of torque at 3,950 rpm. The engine integrates a 48-volt hybrid system with a 12 kW belt-starter generator delivering 130 lb-ft of launch torque. The design includes a cast-iron block with cross-bolted main bearing caps and aluminum alloy cylinder heads. This engine supports mid-grade fuel and maintains consistent torque delivery across operating ranges.
The 3.0-liter straight-six high-output engine is the highest-performing option in the lineup. It produces 540 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 521 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. This twin-turbocharged engine uses forged pistons, forged steel connecting rods, and a forged crankshaft. It operates with a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and requires premium fuel. The engine includes dual cooling circuits for temperature management and a dual exhaust system with straight-through flow characteristics.

Transmission Systems and Gear Ratios
The powertrain integrates two eight-speed automatic transmission systems depending on engine selection. The TorqueFlite 850RE transmission is paired with the 3.6-liter engine and features adaptive electronic control with manual Electronic Range Select capability. It uses a five-clutch-pack design with only two open clutches in any gear, which improves efficiency and reduces internal friction.
The TorqueFlite 8HP75 transmission is paired with the turbocharged and V-8 engines. It includes a four planetary gear set architecture and electronically modulated torque converter clutch. Both transmissions share similar gear ratios, including a 4.71 first gear ratio for initial acceleration and a 0.67 eighth gear ratio for highway efficiency. The reverse gear ratio is set at 3.30. Axle ratios include 3.21, 3.55, and 3.92, depending on configuration.
